MAMM ROCK CAMP
An opportunity for kids to play in a band, perform covers and write original music. Accomplished educators and members of local bands offer inside tips on self-promotion, booking, gigging, the history of rock and music theory. Campers also interface with professionals from the music biz while on several field trips to local radio stations and recording studios. It’s the total rock star treatment! Looking for a sleepover camp? OVERNIGHT Rock Camp at the University of Maine at Machias is offered July 23-27, visit www.maineacademyofmodernmusic.org for more details.
MAMM RECORDING STUDIO CAMP
Learn the fundamentals of recording (pre-production, mic placement, over-dubbing, mixing, mastering) in a state-of-the-art recording studio with one of Portland's top
engineers. The camp is held at The Studio led by engineer Jim Begley, an 11-year resident engineer and live sound engineer of choice for countless bands and venues. Not only will students be hands-on with the same top-notch gear as the pros, they will be working on a recording of a real live band and learning inside tips and tricks of the trade! Past camps have engaged the services of popular bands, such as the internationally acclaimed Paranoid Social Club, featuring members of The Rustic Overtones.
MAMM GUITAR CAMP
A week long introduction to all things guitar from the most fundamental aspects of playing, including identifying the specific parts and types of instruments, to instruction on techniques, music theory, musical appreciation, as well as guest speakers and performers from the local music scene.
MAMM HIP HOP SUMMER CAMP
Four areas of Hip Hop are covered: MCing, DJing, graffiti, and dance. Campers have the opportunity to develop basic skills in all of these areas in a collaborative environment with acclaimed and award-winning artists from Portland’s renowned Hip Hop community.
MAMM JR ROCK CAMPS
Provides the youngest rock stars (8-10) with a basic introduction to the genre. While at Jr Rock Camp, students are introduced to the instruments used in rock n roll and will learn how to play in a band. Campers also participate in sing-a-longs and other fun music games and activities.
MAMM MEET THE INSTRUMENTS
Campers have the unique opportunity to discover instruments that are well suited for them and that they have a passion for. Meet the Instruments introduces all the major instrument families, including woodwinds, brass, strings, fretted instruments, percussion, voice, and more. Each day is dedicated to a specific family to provide an opportunity to explore new instruments. Campers learn the basics of how the instruments work and how to play them. Select special guests and guided group performance activities contribute to campers finding the right fit.
