MAMM OFFERS ACADEMIC CREDIT THROUGH ROYAL ACADEMY

This school year MAMM is partnering with Royal Academy Education (RAE)—an online private school—to offer academic credit to high school students enrolled in MAMM.  Students attending in-person or remote lessons and ensembles at MAMM will be eligible to obtain high school music credit by co-enrolling with RAE for the 2020/2021 academic year.

"As more and more families seek alternative educational paths such as homeschooling for their children due to the various challenges that COVID-19 has presented, MAMM is doing what we can to offer support in this area”, says MAMM director Jeff Shaw.  "The needs of our community are changing and we are adapting to meet those needs", adds Shaw.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • Interested students register at MAMM and schedule their lessons as usual.

  • Students then enroll in RAE and develop a credit plan, which would include a breakdown of contact hours (time with the instructor) and non-contact hours (practice, analysis, etc.).

  • The credit fee for RAE is $40 per month (paid up front) and is paid directly to them, separately from MAMM tuition.

“As a MAMM instructor and former high school teacher, I think this is a fantastic opportunity for our more serious students to earn credit for the time that they put into lessons and ensembles”, says MAMM’s Portland & Remote Program Coordinator, Patia Maule.  “I'm thrilled that we can offer this service to our students, especially those who need to earn credit outside of a traditional school setting."
